The first this I see is the shortcode has typos, here’s a corrected one:

[connections category='20' order_by='zipcode|SORT_ASC']

re: All entries are shown in one row in the order they where edited.
Entries are shown in alphabetical order using the last name / organization name unless you use a custom sort with the order_by shortcode option.

re: At the top of the page I had a dropdown-menue with all categories.
After the issue you posted in this thread is resolved and cMap is activated, then the drop category drop down should be available again.
