Absolutely! The latest dev version can always be downloaded from Github here.

I recommend referring to the Hours extension on how to add custom fields. Since this extension will be free, it too, can be downloaded from Github here.

Several other devs are using the are using the dev version on client sites quite successfully. Let me know how it goes!
