Ok, I see what you’re trying to do. The trouble you’re going to have is the search widget will always resolve to the directory home page. There’s not really a way around that if you want it to work on pages where there is no Connections shortcode.
May I suggest an alternative approach?
Create a directory search results page with [connections] on it and set that as the directory home page and then add force_home=TRUE to all the other pages that have the Connections shortcode on it. That way all links will now resolve to the directory search results page.
That should provide your users with a consistent experience across your different directory pages. It could even be a little better for SEO. That would would really depend on how cross categorized the entries are. Because I know duplicate content is weighted negatively. But I’m not an expert in this area.
Do you think that’ll work for the results you want?
