Yes, you can control the background by altering the CSS file.

Make your changes to the cmap.css file found here:
../wp-content/plugins/cmap

Rename it to cmap.min.css.

Upload your changed cmap.min.css to the ../wp-content/plugins/cmap folder overwriting the original
