Without a link to you directory, impossible to say. But if it is not working consistently, then there’s either a javascript conflict with the theme or another plugin. One way you can check is to load the page in Chrome, hit the F12 key and click the Console tab. This will show all errors on the page and may lead you to the cause.
Another possibility is Excerpt and Excerpt Plus have two view modes, one when the name link feature is off and one when the name link feature is on. Here’s the description from the Template product page:

Connections has a feature that can be enabled that changes the entry name to a link, this link will take you to a page with just that entry. Excerpt Plus is smart enough to know if you have that feature enabled, which is on by default in Connections 0.7.6 and newer. If you have this feature enabled, the fade-in effect the reveals the rest of the entry’s bio is removed and replaced with a link to that entry. When you click thru to that entry, the entire bio is shown, there’s no need for your visitor to click again to reveal all the full bio.
Is this what you’re experiencing? If it is, that is by design.\
